Ranthambore

Tigers among the ruins of a thousand-year-old fort.

Ranthambore National Park, near Sawai Madhopur, was once a royal hunting ground. Today it is one of the most successful tiger reserves in India, with dry forest, lakes and ancient ruins where tigers are often seen in the open.

Safaris run morning and afternoon in open jeeps (gypsies) and larger canters, in fixed zones. Inside the park, Ranthambore Fort sits on a hill above the forest; it is part of the UNESCO Hill Forts of Rajasthan.
