Pushkar

A holy lake, fifty-two ghats and the most famous camel fair in the world.

Pushkar is one of the oldest and holiest towns in India. Its small lake is ringed by 52 ghats and hundreds of temples, including the Brahma Temple, one of very few in the world dedicated to the creator god. At sunset, bells ring and lamps float on the water.

Once a year, around the full moon of Kartik (October–November), the desert around Pushkar fills with camels, traders, pilgrims and travellers for the Pushkar Fair. The rest of the year it is a peaceful, walkable town of rooftop cafés and bazaars.
